What made the Indian Freedom Struggle so important? The Indian Freedom Struggle started after British government came and colonized Indians land. Before British came, India was a wealthy and lively country. The British took people’s land and made up rules in order to make Indian people’s lives harder. The rules were aggressive and unfair. As a result, many Indians were in poverty and disrespected. Consequently, Indians tried stopping the harsh laws by starting a movement using many different strategies. Important events in the Indian Freedom Struggle that created change were protesting, like the Salt March, fasting, and negotiating the change.
The Salt March was one of the most important events in the Indian Freedom Struggle because many people participated and marched with Gandhi to go against the salt tax. The Salt March was important because lots of people had the courage to participate, and the more people who participated then helped challenge laws. The Salt March used the strategy of Civil Disobedience. During this event march to resist salt tax. The government put tax on salt which Indians couldn’t afford. During the Salt March, Indians walked miles with Gandhi and at the end they disobeyed salt laws by making and selling salt. The Salt March got many people involved since Gandhi and others passed so many places. The march started with just about seventy men, but more people started following so the crowd got a thousand or more men and even some women. In addition to people’s courage the event was important because the actions stayed non-violent in the whole movement. Gandhi only focused on non-violence to show violence isn't needed to make a difference in India. Non- violence was a more effective strategy for Gandhi to use because more people cared about things being non violent instead of violent. Therefore, the Salt March was an important event in the Indian Freedom Struggle. Although Some might say the Salt March was not an effective way to get what Indians wanted because it started the Salt Raid. The Salt Raid was when Indian volunteers tried to enter the salt buildings. Each time a group of volunteers came close, 400 police beat the volunteers with clubs. The volunteers would lie on the floor, bloody and injured. The volunteers never fought back. This event was ineffective because many people got very injured. Although, it showed people don’t have to use violence and fight back to get what they want, the raid got many people’s attentions. The impact was that by being peaceful and not fight back. Although the Salt March was not an effective way to get what Indians wanted, but there were good things that came out of it.
Fasting was an important event to the Indian Freedom Struggle because it got people's attention. His hunger strikes were a part of nonviolent direct action. Fasting could be a powerful thing because it got the Raj’s attention. Gandhi fasted to press demands for Independence that India wanted. Gandhi did his fasts on his own until death, each successfully. The objective of each event was to make a change of what's happening in the world. When Gandhi fasted, many people got upset because he became a huge leader and the people loved the things he did for the people and for India. Fasting was helpful towards the Indian Freedom Struggle because it got people to realise he meant what he said, Fasting used to be an important event in the Indian Freedom Struggle. Fasting could not be an efficient strategy because he harmed his body and himself. Gandhi himself said he was against violence for his Indian Freedom Movement, although he was using violence against his body. Gandhi’s fasting also wasn't effective because the government ignored his fasts. Although fasting wasn’t the best strategy he didn’t fast enough to die. Also even though government ignored also fasting, in the end, the government always did something about it because they realised he was a good person. Gandhi fasting may not have been the most efficient strategy, but it got many people’s attention.
The Round Table Conferences were important events to the Indian Freedom Movement because the two sides to communicated. The events were important because the two sides compromised. In the First Table Conference, Gandhi and the British government compromised on the civil disobedience movement, which was and political prisoners were released. The main cause of of the Conferences was India wanted self-rule. Both sides also wanted to discuss reforms, which were changes, in India. Gandhi was a main participant in the Round Table Conferences. For example, Indians wanted home rule. Effects of first conference was both sides making a compromise. The second conference failed to compromise. Effects of the third conference was India becoming free a decade later. The conferences worked better for the Indian movement. Although the Round Table Conferences weren't as effective to the Indian Freedom Movement because some compromises failed. The Second Round Table Conference didn't turn out well for either sides so sometimes negotiating doesn't help. Although, some compromises failed, the other ones worked and helped them become free more than other strategies. The Round Table Conferences were important to the independence of India because both India and British government negotiated changes.
The Round Table Conferences were the most effective events out of the Salt March, Fasting and the Indian Freedom Struggle in general because a decade later India became an independent country. The Round Table Conferences was where the British government and Gandhi negotiated on changes in India. They were discussions about reforms in India. Gandhi pressed demands on home rule which was what all of Indians wanted. The First Table Conference was successful because the British granted partial self-rule. The Second Table Conference was successful because the right of separate electorate was given to Muslims, Indians, even to the Untouchables. The Third Table Conference was successful because the Government of India Act was created. Each of the the conferences helped India became free and independent. Therefore, the Round Table Conferences were the most effective events to end the Indian Freedom Struggle.
During the Indian Freedom Struggle there were many important events that helped stop the movement. The three most important were getting people involved in the Salt March, getting people’s attention when Gandhi fasted, and communication between two sides. People in the world experience struggles all the time. Indians decided to actually do something to make a change and make a difference instead of just dealing with the problems that are happening. People don’t have to use violence. The strategies of Civil Disobedience or non-violent shows people don’t have to have wars to resolve things. As long as you have the courage, you can change any injustice happening in the world. It may take some negotiating, but if Gandhi was able to negotiate with the Raj until they became free a decade later, its possible to stop other injustices happening in the world.
