A social movement that I would help is marriage equality because some of my friends are gay and I don't want them to have to struggle for something that should be a given right. In some places same sex marriage goes unacknowledged. People who are lesbian and gay cannot get a legalized marriage. Knowing this I would help raise money to buy a plane ticket for people who want to get married and send them somewhere where it is legal to get married. This strategy is providing a better option. The upside to this is these people would be able to legally get married. The downside would is that the people I work with and I would only get to help a certain amount of people by doing this and that the people trying to get married may not want to go to the place that we send them to. I also think that we, the people who help me and I, shouldn’t tell the couples what we are doing so that if we don't raise enough money they won't be let down and disappointed because they got their hopes up. Overall this strategy would be ok and may or maynot work
Another thing I would do to help is to create awareness in people who don't know what's happening to people in same sex relationships. To do this I would have people go to schools and talk about marriage equality in assemblies or go to classrooms to speak about marriage equality. These people would be part of the LGBT movement and they would be talking about the struggle people go through to get married as a gay or lesbian couple. We could also have a couple come and speak if they would be comfortable with that. This would be the strategy of awareness. The upside to this is that people would learn the side of the same sex couples. People will learn what they are struggling with to gain the same rights as a straight couple trying to get married. These people would become allies of the LGBT movement. The downside is that people may not listen and that this would be a waste of time. Also the students could make fun of the speakers or give them a hard time because they don't care and don't want to listen.
These two strategies are the ones that I believe would work the best. The first strategy would be giving people an opportunity to get married without all the trouble. The second strategy would help people become aware and make students know their struggle so when they are older and can vote they may vote for laws that would help same sex marriage be acknowledged and legal.
