The Indian Freedom Struggle is one of the most noted events ever to occur in India. The economy, politics, and social status was one of the biggest impacts in India to make life harder for the Indians and to give more privileges to the white people. The British had made many impacts in the Indian political, economy, and social society. Because of these impacts it created apartheid which later made the Indians form the Indian Freedom Struggle.
The economy during the Indian Freedom struggle was probably one of the biggest impacts to made life harder for Indians by increasing taxes to wipe them out of the economy. After the British had invaded India, they made many changes against the Indians concerning their economy. In India, the people did not have a currency. The British brought in a currency which was new to the Indian culture. The way that many people would gain items that are essential to them was to trade for the item they wanted. The economy changed to help the British and to weaken the Indians. The British decided to stop to India’s from selling their handmade clothing by taxing them and then they brought in their own manufactured clothes. Britain was already trying to put india out of its own economy. By taking control of the economy they made prices higher on Indians making it hard for and India to make a living of a small buisness made of their own products. Also by bringing in a new currency it allowed the British to take advantage of the Indians since they have never had a currency before. Because of these changes many people decided to leave and move to the rural farm life which suddenly became too overpopulated and eventually the agricultural economy began to die. The British taking over the market economy had created a chain reaction on most other economies. Overall, the changes the british made forced many Indians out of jobs and had allowed the british to wipe the Indians out of the economy giving the British all of the power.
The political state of India when the British came in was basically tailored so that only white people had all of the privileges, giving them unlimited power and the Indians were left with none. When the British came over the first thing they did to change India’s political state was to deem the Indians as a lower class and their fore giving the them no privileges whatsoever. By the Nineteenth Century, no Indian had posed a threat on the British empire. During this time the government had also created a group called the money lenders or essentially a bank for this new currency. Since the economy was messed up from the british it brought many Indians into an impoverished state. The money lenders would lend money to the poor people who needed money and when the Indians could not pay the bank back the government decided that they would take their land for themselves. This was one of the strategies the government used to gain land from the Indians. The British governments whole strategy was to downgrade or make the Indians feel lower so that way there would be more room for them to take control of the government. By making the Indians feel weak it made the white people look like they had a strong presence in India and that they belonged their. The British also paid off some of the higher people in the Indian society so that we they would look weak towards the british making it seem like no one was higher than the british. Not only did the government make the Indians look weak but they deemed the Indians as a lower race or in other words unequal to white people. Thus, the british had made laws and rules that were tailored to white people and had deemed the Indians as a lower race.
The social situation in India was very discriminatory towards Indians and gives more privileges to white people rather than the Indians. In India many of the Indians were given servant contracts. In these contracts the white employer would keep the indian for a certain amount of years and at the end of those years they would give them a small amount of money. Socially most Indians were considered a low class unless they were very rich Indian or someone who had great power in India. Most white people were considered part of the upper class. An Indians social class depended on what kind of job a Indian person would receive. Since most of the Indian people were part of the lower class they would be given low paid and generally bad jobs such as serving the white people. Most of the white people were part of the upper class and that was why the white people were given well paid and generally good jobs. Also Indians were required to carry and I.D. card while white people were not. As well as getting some of the bad jobs the Indians were also required to live in some of the worst neighborhoods, while the white people got to live in the better parts of town and only because of the color of their skin. In India, a person's social status is basically what defines them as well as the color of their skin. If a person was any other race than they were considered the lower class of people. The white also got many privileges such as not having to carry an I.D. card around, high quality well paid jobs, and being allowed to live in the better parts of their Indian town. Overall, the social situation in India was very discriminatory toward Indians and gives more privileges to the white people rather than the Indians.
In India, the british had caused problems in the area of economics, political and social. Many of these problems had been only a impact on Indians rather than white people. Because of these problems apartheid existed in India. Apartheid is laws that segregate people of a certain race or class in order to gain power. The british had oppressed the Indians in order to gain power. Because of the Apartheid it had angered the Indians and had helped to produce the formation of the Indian Freedom Struggle. The Indian freedom Struggle was a movement that protested many of the Apartheid laws in order to gain equality. Indian to dealt with many of the economical problems was to use a strategy called boycotting. Apartheid affected the political state of India, many Indians dealt with political problems with a form of non violence called civil disobedience. Lastly, the apartheid had affected the british socially. Many people would non-violent protest. Thus, changes in the economy, government, and social ladder had lead to apartheid, which lead to the Indians Freedom Struggle and many different forms of protests.
The Civil Disobedience Movement was one of the most helpful non violent movements to the Indian Freedom Struggle because it got the worlds attention without being violent. Usually nonviolent movements do not get attention with non violence alone because usually those things don't excite most people. The way the Indian Freedom Struggle got its attention was through the violence that the British used on non violent protestors. A great example of violence that was used against the indians ,but the British not returned ,was during the salt raids. During the salt raids, all the Indian people are trying to do is go up to the salt plants and touch them but before they get their they are attacked by the british. This draws a lot of attention because the government is attacking unarmed civilians really upsets people all over the world because it is unjust and unfair. Also the Civil Disobedient Movement were lead by Gandhi and at the time Gandhi had been known for his help with the south African people. By using civil disobedience they had angered the british and so whenever the British would attack the Indians they would look like the bad people to the world. Also civil Disobedience had been a huge help in the strategy of defying the government because the government got very angry at Indian protesters. They got angry enough to get violent with the protestors. Overall, Civil disobedience was a very helpful strategy that gained attention and defied the government.
The nonviolence movement was one of the most helpful strategies for the Indian freedom struggle to help Indians added the social problems and power between the B+ Indian’s. Indians proved that they were the bigger people in many different ways. One way was that the Indians never used violence against their opponent. Being able to not hurt someone that has hurt another person, that has hurt them, in many different ways such as mentally is a hard task. Another way that they were the bigger people is when the British used violence against them they would never respond by using violence themselves. An example of when the Indians were attacked but did not respond the same way was the Salt Raid. Lastly they are the bigger people because they were open to letting the British stay but wanted to get rid of all these laws. The Indians did not want to get rid of the British completely. They believed that they all could live in a world of peace and equality. The British would never had done the same thing and so by forgiving the British it made them the better person. Thus, non violence made the Indians look like bigger people because they never use violence, never responded to violence with violence, and they were forgiving and believed in a world where they all could live peacefully and equally.
Boycotting was used in the Indian Freedom struggle because it showed control and power. When the British took over the economy of India the first thing that they did was raise the price of Indian goods so that there was only British. Only the British would make money off the Indians. Many of the Indians believed that it was unfair that only white people were allowed to sell products while Indians couldn’t. One of their thoughts was to boycott all British goods. Indians stopped buying British goods to bring to a person income. No one was allowed to buy British goods, thus the Indians would make their own food and clothes. The Indians showed the British that they were not the only people with the power. By boycotting British goods they had forced the government to give into the Indians and allow them to sell their Indian products. This showed that the power belonged to the Indians and when the British stopped losing money they decided to bend the rules. Overall, boycotting was one of the most effective strategies because it showed not only the British but the Indians that they were in control and that they had the power.
